Is there a time limit for the Surf-n-Santa 5 Miler? Is it walker friendly?

We must have all participants cleared off the boardwalk by 5:45pm so the City can open the boardwalk for their holiday lights event. Walkers are welcome.

Are headphones allowed during the race?

Headphones are allowed; however, we strongly encourage participants to abstain from using headphones during this race.

Are baby joggers, strollers or pets allowed during the race?

Baby Joggers/Strollers
Yes, baby joggers and strollers are allowed. You must include your child’s information during your registration (there is no additional charge). If you did not include your child during registration, please visit the Solutions Booth at the Sports & Fitness Expo to add your child.

Baby joggers and strollers are not allowed in corrals 1-2, so you must be in corral 3 or higher and seed yourself at the back of your assigned corral. It is your responsibility to make sure your baby jogger/stroller does not impede other runners, and you must take extra precaution to ensure your safety, your child’s safety, and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any participant from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves.

Pets
Pets are not permitted in any of the J&A Racing events.

Can I switch races?

No, you may not switch your 5 Miler race entry to another J&A Racing event.

Can I defer my entry to next year?

You may defer your registration to next year’s Surf-N-Santa 5 Miler.

The fee to defer a registration is $25.

There are no age limits. We encourage participants of all ages to join us!

What do I get for my entry fee?

All 5 Miler participants will receive a either 5-piece Santa suit OR a race shirt (you will choose either the suit or shirt during registration). All finishers will receive a unique finisher’s medal and special finisher’s item. All participants are invited to the post-race festivities! Be sure to bring your race number to the post-race party as it is your ticket for beer (21+) and food.

Can I register on race day?

If the race has not sold out, we will have registration on race day. Cash and credit cards will be accepted at the expo.

Can someone else pick up my packet for me?

Yes. If you are unable to pick up your own race packet, you may authorize another person to pick up your packet/bib number. The authorized individual MUST have their own photo ID, a signed and printed authorization form, and a copy of the participant’s photo IDThe signed authorization form MUST be printed, we will NOT accept any authorization via phone, text message, or any other electronic device.  The copy of the photo ID may be via text, email, or photo copy. NO EXCEPTIONS!  If the authorized individual is missing any of these items, we will not release the packet/bib number, NO EXCEPTIONS.  Authorization Form HERE

How will I receive my race packet?

You must pick up your race packet prior to the race start. If you are 16 or older, you must have your ID to pick up your race number – NO EXCEPTIONS. We will not mail your race packet before the race. Learn more about packet pickup times and locations HERE.

Race Information

Do I need my ID for the finish line party?

You will need a wrist bracelet provided by Great Outdoor Provision Co. Surf-n-Santa 5 Miler in order to drink beer at the finish line festival. You can get this bracelet by showing us your ID at the expo (special ID Check booth) or at the finish line festival. Beer is free for all participants and can be purchased from the Noblemen at the party for any spectators. All beer sales proceeds go to the Noblemen.

Will spectators be allowed to view the finish?

Yes, spectators will be allowed inside the Virginia Beach Convention Center once the race has started and may stay to view the finish and take part in the post-race party.

What times do the roads re-open?

All roads will re-open at approximately 6:00pm. For specific details on road closures click here.

What time should I be there?

We encourage all participants and spectators to arrive prior to 4:00pm to ensure parking availability and allow for adequate time to drop off bags, warm up, and get in the start corrals.

Is there a dry bag check?

Yes, dry bag check will be available inside the lobby/prefunction area of the Virginia Beach Convention Center. As a safety requirement, every runner will receive a clear plastic bag at packet pick-up that MUST be used for your gear check bag.  We WILL NOT accept any other bags. All bibs will include a gear check tag that will need to be removed from your bib and tied to the bag before you turn it into gear check at the race.

What are the event start times?

Rudolph’s 1K; Friday, December 14 at 6:15pm

Surf-n-Santa 5 Miler: Saturday, December 15 at 4:30pm

Where can we park for the races?

All parking lots adjacent to the Convention Center on 19th Street will be available for parking. Please arrive early. These lots will fill up. For additional parking information, please CLICK HERE.

Will there be an awards ceremony? What are the award categories?

We will not have an awards ceremony as we must first verify results. Click Here for more details about the awards.

Will there be sports drinks and energy gels on the course?

No, there will not be sports drinks or energy gels handed out on the course. Water stops will be provided at Miles 2 and 4.
