Position Descriptions
Position: Packet Pick-Up/T-Shirts
Description: Volunteers are assigned to two areas within packet pick-up – race bib pick-up, and T-Shirt & Packet distribution. Volunteers for race bib pick-up must verify participants’ identities and give them their race bibs. Volunteers for T-shirt distribution hand out T-shirts and goody bags to participants.
Time Commitment: Maximum of 4 hours on Friday (Expo day); Maximum of 5 hours on Saturday (Expo & Race day)
Check-in Location: Volunteer Check-In; Virginia Beach Convention Center
What to Wear: Volunteers will receive a volunteer T-shirt and santa hat. Volunteers will be inside for their entire shift. We encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
Position: Start
Description: Volunteers at the start line assist race staff in putting up the start arch, preparing and securing start corrals, controlling pre-race crowds, and assisting with corral control and movement during the wave start.
What to Wear: Volunteers will receive a volunteer T-shirt and santa hat. Volunteers will be outside for their entire shift and should dress for current and forecasted weather. We encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
Position: Finish Line
Description: Volunteers at the finish line assist race staff distributing medals, water, food, and other items to race finishers.
What to Wear: Volunteers will receive a volunteer T-shirt and santa hat. Volunteers will be inside for their entire shift. We encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
Position: Post Race Party Assistance
Description: Volunteers for this position will be assisting race staff in distributing the post race party soup to participants. Tasks include pouring soup into bread boules, distributing the food, and helping to control lines of participants waiting for their food.Note: Participants for this position must be at least 16 years old!
